News of this church dates from a relatively late period, the 15th century. The sanctuary had once been part of one of the two hospitals in Chrudim.

The church does not meet the former ecclesiastical requirement that it be situated so as to have the priest face the East "whence the light had come."

PA gradual population increase probably compelled an expansion of the building. The presbytery has been preserved in its original state; in 1536 work was started on the nave which also remains in the state it had been built.

The nave received a pyramid-shaped roof; the presbytery had a similar roof. A conflagration, which erupted on 6.8.1850, engulfed the entire St. Catherine's environment and damaged the church. Repairs were done in the years 1887-1888; the church was newly consecrated on 8.8.1888.
